The Waikato food and hospitality industry bands together for a great cause this Christmas.
On Tuesday the 13th of December Turtle Lake at the Hamilton Gardens will be a buzz with over 200 diners enjoying a delicious four course lunch – BUT there is more to this lunch than a dose of Christmas cheer!
All the food and labour, every piece of cutlery and glass of wine, the linen and the entertainment have all been donated and proceeds, an expected $10-15,000 is being donated to the Red Cross Kaikoura Earthquake Appeal.
Leanne Morris from The Event Company is the brainchild behind the event and with the help of Waikato Food Inc has pulled together the manpower, ingredients and equipment needed for this huge event in just one week! Waikato Food Inc Chairperson, Vicki Ravlich-Horan says “when Leanne told me about her idea I thought she was mad but we needed to give it a go.”
Vicki says “this is one of the benefits of an organisation like Waikato Food Inc, we could immediately tap into our members and networks with a call for help and we were not disappointed! Within a couple of days we had almost all the food we needed to put on an amazing lunch for 250 people, plus offer for help to prepare and serve it.”
Tickets are available via eventfinda.co.nz and details of the lunch will be posted on Waikato Food Inc’s facebook page as they are confirmed. “This is a huge event to organise” Vicki points out. “It would normally take months and we are doing it in 3 weeks all with volunteers in what is a crazy busy time for everyone so we are relying on word of mouth, people sharing what we are trying to achieve and generally getting behind the cause.” If the response so far is any indication tickets will go fast!
