On July 21st and 2nd Waikato Food Inc hosted a group of NZ Food Writers in our wonderful region.
Over the two days they got a real taste of the amazing producers and eateries that chose to make Waikato their home.
We started at Zealong
After a quick tour and a couple of delicious tea based drinks we were treated to an amazing morning tea from Executive Chef TJ .
Then it was off to Sweetree Honey
Where we meet Stephanie and Martin, the Husband and Wife behind the award winning local raw honeys that celebrate the area and season our bees have worked their magic.
Next stop Wild Country
Angelique and Stephen from Wild Country handmake a range of delicious gourmet condiments using many locally grown ingredients from the Waikato and New Zealand.
A quick stop at Donovans Chocolates before an amazing lunch at Dough Bros
who put on an amazing five course lunch highlighting many amazing local producers.
After Lunch we waddled to Good George
Where we were treated to a tour of the brewery culminating in a tipple or two of the brews while trying some award winning cheese from Meyer Cheese and Over The Moon Dairy.
Dinner that night was at Hayes Common
A Neighbourhood Eatery offering Creative Robust Food, Craft Beer and Great Coffee. It’s a place to drop into for a bite or hang out for the evening. Recently names in Cuisines Top 100
Saturday morning saw us up early and off to Southern Fresh
Growers and processors of speciality vegetables, gourmet leaf salads and fresh herbs.
Then it was off to discover the Cambridge Farmers Market
And then an amazing Lunch at Alpha Street Kitchen & Bar
Where we enjoyed a 5 course lunch from the a modern eatery in the heart of Cambridge, offering one of the Waikato’s best dining experiences for lunch, dinner and everything in between. Recently names in top 100 Cuisine awards.
Exhausted and very full our last stop was Vilagrads
