Leading the Way Lunch at Wintec

Step in behind the scenes of the Waikato’s leading Culinary Arts school as Glen File leads a team of 2nd year Diploma in Culinary Arts students to deliver a big-city dining experience as part of the Feast Waikato festival. The students will be working the kitchen at the event in a variety of roles, from sous chef to pastry specialist.

Wintec has been training chefs for decades. As the longest running culinary arts training programme in the Waikato, Wintec can claim more than it’s fair share of NZ culinary stars and industry leaders as graduates. This event invites Chef Glen File back into the training kitchen to deliver a luxurious selection of ingredients with the un-imitable style of Josh Emmett’s Onslow, where he is head chef. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students and diners alike, guests can experience the rising stars of New Zealand cuisine in our exclusive chef take over event. This collaboration between Chef Glen File, Wintec Centre for hospitality, Vilagrad’s and Feats Waikato focuses on supporting our emerging young chefs as they begin their culinary careers. This event promises to give our valued customers some fantastic food and wine, talented chefs, a glimpse into our culinary future and a great way to see how our chefs are trained. Each course is paired with wine selected from award winning Waikato Winery Vilagrad, and Chef/Winemaker, Kristian Nooyan, joins us with the unique story of how their family has successfully produced wine in the Waikato region for four generations.

The key to a great meal is good ingredients, cooked really well. In his current role as Head Chef at Josh Emmett’s Onslow, File has a huge focus on sourcing excellent ingredients and allowing them to shine through traditional cookery techniques. Redefining the classics with relaxed sophistication! With a wealth of experience overseas and in high profile local restaurants such as Boulcott street Bistro in Wellington, The Grange and Baduzzi, File is one of New Zealand’s hottest award-winning kitchen talents. Accolades include Cuisine Best Specialist Restaurant 2014, Runner-up Best Market Bistro as well as earning Two Hats, a decoration coveted by all New Zealand restaurants.

Wintec Hospitality School – For those with a passion for creating and delivering great food, wine and coffee

Providing training for many of New Zealand’s best chefs. Wintec Centre for Hospitality takes this responsibility very seriously. Wintec hospitality students form the future of the New Zealand dining experience and they must be encouraged to take on the responsibility with passion. Wintec is the natural starting point for the Waikato’s aspirational chefs. Our comprehensive training programmes are delivered in state-of-the-art facilities and lead to nationally recognised qualifications in the Culinary Arts and Food & Beverage service. Chefs and front of house students fine tune their skills in the Centre for Hospitality’s training restaurant, Windows. A stylish, fully licensed restaurant in the heart of Rotokauri Campus.

Villagrads Wines

Waikato winery Vilagrads has secured over 100 medals and awards during the past decade. Hand-harvested and produced on their premises in Ngahinapouri, their range of wines, ports and sherry’s include the Three Brothers label specialising in three grape varietals from three regions in New Zealand.


Ticket includes three courses with matched wines plus a non alcoholic cocktail on arrival and tour of training facilities.
